Wicked and Lazy

Hello readers Victoria Denham here. Anybody who knows me will know that I can be a bit of a humbug and not just in the Christmas season... Birthdays, Mothers/Fathers day, Valentine's, ask anyone, I'm useless. That being said a couple of factors have contributed to my latest unexpected venture into the world of memery (?) and greetings cards. About nine months ago I purchased a Wacom Bamboo Tablet after reading How do you add handwriting to a photograph? one of my favourite blogs A Beautiful Mess. I really love how they use the tablet to add small personal touches such as handwritten captions and lovely little doodles, it really drew me to that website and like any fan I wanted to try it for myself. However, unfortunately I have TERRIBLE handwriting. Seriously, I write things down all the time that I can't even read back and the sensitivity of the pad just compounds the issue. For the first few months I desperately tried to practice and while some tutorials have really helped like the ever-so-useful Pugly Pixel's Penmanship & Wacom tutorial in the end I've had to concede defeat, which I loathe.

Determined not to consign it to the-bought-but-never-use pile I instead tried my hand at some drawings. the first thing I made was a hand-drawn background to my travel blog Spun From Fact, at first I had use pictures to essentially trace over in photoshop but with six months practice and few simple photoshop skills I'm now really happy to be producing some drawings I would not be ashamed to show other people. More recently I've done a series of drawings for friends and few self-portraits, working from some snapshots I seemed to accidentally hit on this white pen on a coloured background style and began to play around with adding a caption or meme. Then one morning last week I up and turning my ideas into satirical Christmas cards that really my disenfranchisement with Christmas just seemed like an obvious and amusing progression that would speak to a lot of people I know.

As you can see they soon evolved from the bright block colours of my first designs to ones a little economic and printer friendly which has turned out great as I can print more cards this way and adds some variety to what was rapidly becoming a collection that would need a name. I bantered about a few names but Lazy seemed to encapsulate what I was trying to do and say. Simple and to the point. So without further ado, here they are the rest.

I plan to do six new designs as soon as possible. They're all available to buy on Etsy either as individual cards or as a full set of six. Not to mention as little Christmas treat for Leren Connor readers have the chance to win all 6 by simply commenting on this post and telling us which is your favourite design and why?

Winners announced in just 24 hours! Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Festive Fairs

With each passing day I get more and more excited that Christmas is just around the corner, me and my family are well in the Christmas mood and have some great festive plans! I'm also looking forward to breaking up from uni on Friday after my deadline hand in and then it's just one more week of work before I can take some time of to enjoy the season with my loved ones.
The big Christmas food shop is happening in the next week for the preparation of a pre Christmas feast on christmas eve, Christmas day we are all gathering at my older sisters for a right good family get together. As usual I will be starting the day with a glass of bucks fizz before we sit round the tree and give out our gifts! Obviously the mulled wine will be coming out, the Christmas crackers those terrible Christmas jokes and so much more. But most importantly I can not wait to see my little girls face and hear the laughter from my friends and family because for me that is what Christmas is made of.

Before I can fully relax I have two last festive craft fairs coming up this weekend, both are taking place in derby. The 1st one is taking place this Saturday at the Guildhall Market at the Derby market square. I will be there from 10am untill 4pm. On Sunday I will be at the Venue which is located on Abby street about two minutes from the city centre. The Sunday fair is going to be great day theres going to be so much stuff to do on the day for kids as well as live music, comedy, food and a swap and shop. It's called the Padley Festive Fair and its all in aid of raising money for the homeless people so come on down if your in the area. It starts at 1pm and finishes at 5pm.

And last on my Christmas list is those Christmas Bargains... I have sale stuff on my ASOS shop and new products as well as reduced prices on my etsy shop and don't forget to use coupon code LERENXMASSPECIAL on etsy for free delivery.

Tis' the Season

HO HO HO It's almost Christmas I am well in the festival spirit!! I have almost finished my shopping and the wrapping has begun (yes i'm that organised) although I have bought gifts from the high street I have also supported local makers around my area and have brought my loved ones some handmade goodies which I know they will love! As a designer maker myself I do think it is important to support other creative beings on there quest to making there business more sustainable. With Christmas around the corner it is the perfect opportunity for you to do the same, so instead of giving the high street your hard earned cash this Christmas why not invest in something a little more special and sentimental...something that is handmade with love.

I currently have a lot of sales on my ASOS shop with up to 50% off as well as FREE delivery on my Etsy shop so have a gander you never know the perfect gift could be waiting for you

This month I have two Christmas fairs coming up which I'm super excited for not only do I get to sell my work but it's also a perfect opportunity for me to buy some last minute gifts for my loved ones or even treat my self :)

December 14th I will be at the Guildhall Market in Derby at the market square from 10am - 4.30pm
December 15th I will be at the Venue on Abby st in Derby.

I am still waiting for confirmation on times for the 15th of december but it is a charity event to help raise money for homeless people, it is also a family filled day with lots of activities for children to do.

Just The Charm

I have stated before that I love jewelry but what I personally love about jewelry is how simple yet effective a piece can be, this post targets simple sophistication spoken by simple charms, as you know a key accessory piece or a jewelry piece can finish of an outfit and add that extra attention to detail.
I could literally spend hours jewelry making I find it incredibly therapeutic and it's because of these little beauties I get to take part of local craft fairs and enjoy selling directly to the public and what I love most about craft fairs is the appreciation on people's faces. For me it is important that my label can cater for a wide audience so there's always something for everybody.

With Christmas around the corner I want to be able to offer discounts and competitions as a treat for the upcoming festive season, we are also getting close to my label being officially a year old so keep your eyes peeled either on my blog or my page because you could be in with a chance on the next competition. In the mean time don't forget I have a coupon code on my Etsy shop LERENXMASSPECIAL just type it in at the checkout and get FREE delivery.

KISS...keep it simple sweet!

Geek Streak.

Get ready to get your geek on, I'm a sucker for things that take me back to my childhood or take me back to memories I've got and it just so happens I have loads of funky jewellery right here that will do that for you as well.

Growing up I was a huge fan of Transformers and playing Pacman so when I came across these charms I fell in love and got all giddy because I instantly thought of being a kid again and lets face it, we all want to go back to being a kid again at some point in our life. The jewellery pieces shown in this post are all my geek streak pieces! A huge love in my house for me and my daughter is Harry Potter we love him and most sundays we watch one of the films with our Sunday roast it's almost like a tradition in our house. I have grown up with Harry so when I wear the deathly hallows charm necklace it instantly takes me back to my childhood and growing up with all the films.

With my jewellery I like to cater for everyone so the selection you see now is only a small selection of my collection, they are all handmade with plenty of love and because Christmas is almost upon us I'm offering FREE delivery on any of my products from my Etsy shop just use coupon code LERENXMASSPECIAL at the checkout and get your geek streak on!
