Wicked and Lazy

Hello readers Victoria Denham here. Anybody who knows me will know that I can be a bit of a humbug and not just in the Christmas season... Birthdays, Mothers/Fathers day, Valentine's, ask anyone, I'm useless. That being said a couple of factors have contributed to my latest unexpected venture into the world of memery (?) and greetings cards. About nine months ago I purchased a Wacom Bamboo Tablet after reading How do you add handwriting to a photograph? one of my favourite blogs A Beautiful Mess. I really love how they use the tablet to add small personal touches such as handwritten captions and lovely little doodles, it really drew me to that website and like any fan I wanted to try it for myself. However, unfortunately I have TERRIBLE handwriting. Seriously, I write things down all the time that I can't even read back and the sensitivity of the pad just compounds the issue. For the first few months I desperately tried to practice and while some tutorials have really helped like the ever-so-useful Pugly Pixel's Penmanship & Wacom tutorial in the end I've had to concede defeat, which I loathe.

Determined not to consign it to the-bought-but-never-use pile I instead tried my hand at some drawings. the first thing I made was a hand-drawn background to my travel blog Spun From Fact, at first I had use pictures to essentially trace over in photoshop but with six months practice and few simple photoshop skills I'm now really happy to be producing some drawings I would not be ashamed to show other people. More recently I've done a series of drawings for friends and few self-portraits, working from some snapshots I seemed to accidentally hit on this white pen on a coloured background style and began to play around with adding a caption or meme. Then one morning last week I up and turning my ideas into satirical Christmas cards that really my disenfranchisement with Christmas just seemed like an obvious and amusing progression that would speak to a lot of people I know.

As you can see they soon evolved from the bright block colours of my first designs to ones a little economic and printer friendly which has turned out great as I can print more cards this way and adds some variety to what was rapidly becoming a collection that would need a name. I bantered about a few names but Lazy seemed to encapsulate what I was trying to do and say. Simple and to the point. So without further ado, here they are the rest.

I plan to do six new designs as soon as possible. They're all available to buy on Etsy either as individual cards or as a full set of six. Not to mention as little Christmas treat for Leren Connor readers have the chance to win all 6 by simply commenting on this post and telling us which is your favourite design and why?

Winners announced in just 24 hours! Good luck and Merry Christmas.

  1. I love them all they are witty and a refreshing break from 'the norm' but I'd say my absolute favourite is the Mark Bolan one! Can't wait to see your take on Valentines Miss Tori! x
